Americans for Freedom and Liberty (AFL) works to safeguard the fundamental structures that allow communities to participate meaningfully in civic life—especially fair voting districts and tools for direct democracy, including citizen-led amendment processes.
In an era of increasing political polarization, legal attacks on democratic infrastructure, and legislative efforts to restrict citizen power, AFL fills a critical gap: providing sustained and strategic 501(c)(3) support to protect democratic participation.
To protect and strengthen democratic participation by supporting litigation, research, and public education that advance fair representation, defend direct democracy, and ensure communities—especially in the American South—keep meaningful power to shape their futures.
